The following shows details of events of a Household Division nature which may be of interest to readers. THE GUARDS CHAPEL. Known officially as the Royal Military Chapel, was first built on its current site in 1838 and remodeled in 1873. In subsequent years, the walls were embellished by mosaics and memorials, to former members of the Brigade of Guards. In June 1944, the building received a direct hit, from a flying bomb during a Sunday morning service. Over 120 people, both military and civilian were killed and many more injured in the blast. Miraculously, the candles lit around the altar were unaffected. The new Chapel, designed by Bruce George, was rebuilt around the surviving altar and apse and rededicated in 1963. The chapel is open to the public for visits during the week between 10.00am and 4.00pm; 10.00am and 3.00pm on Fridays, with services each Sunday. Entry is from Birdcage Walk. Please feel free to visit the chapel when you are next in London. You can also check opening times and services, prior to your visit, on 020-1414-3228/3229. CEREMONY OF THE KEYS- HM TOWER OF LONDON The Ceremony of the Keys takes place daily at 10pm. Interested
parties/individuals should write direct to HM Tower of London
giving as much notice as possible. Between 40-50 visitors are
admitted to watch the Ceremony of the Keys each night. |

| Regimental Remembrance Day Parade and Service. |
Members of the Association together with serving members of the Regiment join together at Wellington Barracks in May of each year to remember those comrades who gave their lives, throughout the history of the Regiment, for their country. Following the service of remembrance a wreath is laid in the Regimental Cloister in the Guards Chapel and then the members of the Association form up in which ever Battlion 'Company' they wish and march, with the Regimental Band, to the Guards Memorial on Horse Guards Parade where a second wreath is laid and on returning to Barracks are dismissed to congregate and to meet their friends. Members form up on the Barrack Square at 2.30 pm and the service in the Guards Chapel commences at 3 pm. Prior to the Regimental Remembrance Day Service and at 1.30 pm a wreath is laid at the Mareth Cross (see places to visit) and surviving members of the 6th Battalion or the relatives of those who were at the battle of Mareth are invited to be present at the short service and wreath laying. |
